Swim to Success

Important Messages

We have some sad news, Hannah Wilson has told us that she is leaving the club to pursue another opportunity. We’d like to thank Hannah for her contribution to coaching our swimmers over the past few years.

However, there is also some great news in that we are pleased to announce that Gail Ashley will be joining us to take over as Academy Coach and help with the development of swimmers into the upper squads.

Gail is an experienced Level 2 coach that brings a great deal to NPSC having coached at CMKSC previously.

We are also pleased to announce that Alison Keighley is also joining the coaching team to help with the transition from Stepping Stones into Academy and coaching on to development.

Newport Pagnell SC now has a great coaching team headed by Lisa Salmon and we are expecting to be able to progress the club and the swimmers from their first stroke when learning to swim to their final stroke when finishing a race at the National Championships.

I hope you join me in wishing all of the coaches well and supporting our new team during a very exciting time for our Swimming Club.

Newport Pagnell Swimming Club is steeped in history, dating back to 1896, making it not only an important part of the local community but also one of the oldest swimming club in Britain. The club train and teach at Middleton Pool, Newport Pagnell.

The club is Swim21 accredited, with a view that it’s really important to focus on developing swimmers to help them achieve their own personal goals.

The club’s “Stepping Stones” programme starts from as young as three years old and smooth progression is ensured for any swimmers who wish to continue to develop their techniques, through the Academy and ultimately the Age and Youth Squads. There are even Masters sessions for adults to participate and learn how to swim properly, whilst also keeping fit.

Focus is put on technique, cardiovascular and muscular endurance, flexibility and discipline delivered by experienced coaches.

NPSC is a friendly, family club with a competitive spirit for all swimmers from developing water confidence through to winning championships.

Land Training Sessions **Update** – Land training is an important part of the swimmer programme and will enhance everyone’s performance.  Lisa would encourage all swimmers to join this part of their programme.   This is an additional cost to the club in these winter months and therefore we need to cover the costs by charging £3 a week (not a session) for performance swimmers and £2 for all other squads – Please bring cash on the Monday nights session for each week in order to keep admin to a minimum.

Please Note that Land Training is only for Squad swimmers and not Academy swimmers.

Coaches Tips

Focus on maintaining high quality technique during the quality set, continuously re-evaluate the quality of your swimming as it is how well your technique holds when you are tired that will affect how well you swim in competition.
Youth Squad Swimmers – Lactate sets must be completed at maximum speed to provide maximal benefit. Swim fast in training, swim faster in competition.
Age Squad swimmers – streamlining in starts and turns, underwater kick speed, firm and strong strokes
